Chair of Energy Network Technology
at Montanuniversitaet Leoben

MISSION

"We are advancing the sustainable development of integrated and industrial energy systems based on renewable energy sources
and want to help shape a climate-neutral future through excellent research."

LEC EvoLET

The increasing expansion of renewable energies leads to ever higher negative residual loads in the power grid, which can subsequently overload individual grid sections. Possible measures include curtailment, storage and sector coupling. The area of sector coupling is in particular focus, as hydrogen generated by electrolysis or synthetically produced natural gas can be fed into the existing natural gas infrastructure. Since the supply of renewable energies is fluctuating, the hydrogen concentrations can fluctuate when hydrogen is fed into natural gas grids. Within the project "LEC EvoLET" the effects of fluctuating hydrogen concentrations in natural gas on the operating behavior of stationary gas engines are investigated.
The Chair of Energy Network Technology is responsible for the time-resolved simulation of varying hydrogen concentrations in a real network section.

As part of a research project at the COMET K1 competence center LEC EvoLET, the effects of fluctuating hydrogen concentrations in natural gas on the operating behavior of stationary gas engines are being investigated.
